Skip it on a slab you're going to replace within a few years. Sealing a driveway that's already spalling is putting a raincoat on a snowman.
Skip it on a pool deck or a set of stairs if a glossy sealer is your only option and nobody's going to add anti-slip grit. Slip resistance beats shine on a wet surface, every time.
And skip hiring anyone for it at all if the slab is clean and in decent shape. This is one of the most honestly DIY-able jobs in the trade.
